How it works
Deoxycholic acid is the same substance as the bile acid the body uses to digest dietary fat; placed in the fat layer it ruptures the membrane of fat cells and destroys them. The destroyed cells and fat are cleared by the body's immune cells over several weeks, and the swelling and warmth that come with that process are the normal response to this injection. Because the number of fat cells itself falls, the result lasts comparatively long; it is given in several sessions at set intervals, with the dose set by the thickness of the area.
